I am reading a beautiful book, one you will love especially if you like gardening: Paths of Desire, by Dominique Browning. She is the editor-in-chief of House & Garden, but a fine memoirist too. I couldn’t resist the title of her first book: Around the House and in the Garden: A Memoir of Heartbreak, Healing and Home Improvement, which I loved.
I seem to have lost my taste for most fiction these days. I want to hear the truth–the beautiful truths, written well. Hm? I read this last night in Paths, “It is better, in a garden (as in life, or a love affair), if you always think there is something ahead.” I love that and it is so true.
