Archive for May, 2010

I tried to put these photos in a certain order, but no luck today–computer glitches; oh well.
I took these photos a few weeks ago on our annual summer “open the cabin” trip. We all meet a the lake, turn on the water pump, then fix  whatever needs fixing–usually the water pump. Many trips to the hardware store ensue. Luckly, it’s mostly my step-father who is happiest w/a project. Mom & C. rake the beach. We all take long walks along the water & through the meadow. It’s early May. No one is here yet. We have it all to ourselves. 🙂

The peaks behind the meadow in May

The back step at Snowflower

We drove the long way back around the lake, stopped for Mother’s Day brunch. I snuck up the hill to take a peek at the old house, deserted it seems, after my mom sold it in the 90s. Sad.

This is the back step in May also, just 37 years earlier. From the left: my sister, our dog Boomer, me & mom. One day I’m going to pull this up & give it to my mom.

My niece & Zephyr on the pier; precious moment

I’m sorry, but weren’t you just 5 years old? To the both of them, actually. C has such a beautiful smile. 🙂

in the meadow

A downed tree in the meadow; so, so quiet. No one’s home.

The back road used to be dirt w/marsh grass growing between the tire tracks. Baby frogs would cross the road from the meadow & find their way into the house. They loved the showers. 🙂

the pier at a biting cold sunrise

Peaceful, chilly, frosty pier morning. The lake is like glass.

down the beach; sunrise

I got dibs on the upstairs room with a view. I rarely get it. What a treat.

the best room with a view

The cabin is my last family refuge. It is the only home left that I’ve known all my life. And it hasn’t changed too much in all those years. A nicer shower, a new oven, but mostly it stays the same & I like that just fine.
