Every other year my family gets the cabin in July. The other years my aunt & her family get it & we get August, which is nice to escape the city heat, but you don’t get the 4th of July which is fun at the lake–mostly, because 10,000 tourists are crammed into town & we get to watch the mayhem quietly from the pier.
This year we started the day at the Meeks Bay Fire Department Pancake Breakfast. It’s an annual fundraiser that really helps out a very busy fire department. I got up at 8 a.m. for it (not my finest hour) but it was worth it. There were firemen–hot, Tahoe, mountain firemen. They do back country search & rescue. They ski, hike & are generally ubber rugged. They live with dogs & drink black coffee. That’s worth an 8 a.m. breakfast call to me.
Next comes fireworks. 🙂
