Thanksgiving eve, packing the car: my niece, the dog, more stuff than one would imagine we needed, plus….the pies. Two pies. Two very delicate pumpkin pies that needed to make it 2 hours up the freeway in a packed jeep, no spare room…with a dog.
I didn’t have anything in the kitchen that would protect one, let alone two. Then I looked up saw one of my favorite travel hat boxes on the shelf. Normally, I use it for tango class, dance shoes, water bottle. It’s perfect & fun.
It was such an incredible working idea I nearly cheered. And to my absolute amazement a pie fit perfectly into it, with room for fingers to lower it in. I used the plastic rounded lid from the pie crusts to separate them. No safety issues, I just put it in back w/the other luggage, plus it had a handle for carrying. Fabulous!
Needless to say, the hat box came home empty. Pies were a success. Yay!
