I love them; I hate them; I want them gone or at least out of my leafy lettuce, away from my budding sunflowers & stop stripping the leaves off my corn!
Snails, they drive me crazy. Yet they are so beautiful. It rained the other day and they all came out to promenade about the garden. It never occurred to me–until the next day, after they had munched down my lovely lemon thyme to round them up and send them packing to the farm.
Once, I actually hand plucked them by the dozens into a bucket, drove across town to the river and poured them out into the tall grass. Sigh. It’s just a love-hate relationship.
If I could portion off a part of my small yard and create a snail terrarium, I would, but snails aren’t too big on boundaries. For all that shell, they are incredibly sneaky.
But look how beautiful they are too. I was completely entranced with them on this dewy morning. Lovely.
Snails, it appears, keep together in families. Perhaps, couples too. Perhaps this is a date. 🙂
